0What are the basic steps needed to perform Umrah?
If the person desires to perform Umrah, he is required to bathe and wear the top-most perfume in head and beard. Although bathing for Ihram is a voluntary act, the same is often termed Sunnah for both men and women. Even the women dealing with their menstrual cycle or postnatal bleeding should opt for a shower before entering the state of Ihram. After purifying one’s body for Ihram state, the pilgrim is necessitated to pray Salah if it’s the time for it (menstruating women cannot pray Namaaz or recite Quran unless her monthly period is over). The pilgrims have to pray two Rakhas of Wudoo if it is not the time of Namaaz. Once the Salah is accomplished, the men pronounce “‘Labbaik Umrah’ in a loud voice. However, women should pronounce the same in a low voice so that the people standing behind her do not hear the same.
When the pilgrim approaches Hajre Aswad (the black stone), he has to either kiss the stone or touch it. Generally, due to the presence of thousands of people, it is troublesome to reach the black stone and kiss it that’s why it is permitted to raise your hands and say Bismillah Allahu Akbar while facing the Kaabah. This act of raising the hands towards Hajre Aswad is repeated every time the pilgrim faces the stone during Tawaf.
After successfully finishing the seven rounds of Tawaf, pilgrims pray two Rakhas of Nafl and move on to Saayi (running back and forth in the hills of Safa and Marwah). The pilgrims opting for Hajj are then required to follow the rituals of Jamrah-al Aqabah that involves throwing stones on Shaitaan. However, to perform Umrah neither involves Jamrah al-Aqabah nor does it include the slaughtering of animals. There are many agencies offering Umrah packages, make sure to have a guide that has the authentic knowledge on Umrah and its procedure.
